Hello AADO Members and Allies,

Welcome to the new AADO 2024 Conference Website!

I am so glad that you will be joining us at what promises to be our most exceptional conference yet.

The program will be packed with informative and thought-provoking sessions, and we are delighted to partner with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) to bring author and journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones as our opening Keynote speaker.

We have recently unveiled our brand re-design, complete with a new logo and tagline – "The Network for Fundraisers of Color", which embodies exactly who we are.

So, get ready! It's a new dawn, it's a new day at AADO, and you do not want to miss out. See you in Atlanta!

Best regards,

Birgit Smith Burton

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

NIKOLE HANNAH-JONES

On June 10th we are thrilled to welcome Pulitzer Prize-winning author Nikole Hannah-Jones to the AADO conference stage for a conversation with Nneka Allen, (above left) founder of The Empathy Agency Inc. This will be part 2 of a discussion that originated at the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), ICON Conference in Toronto in early April. We expect these sisters to continue exploring critical issues facing fundraisers of color, namely the historical origins and present-day realities of anti-Blackness in the philanthropic sector.

Through her groundbreaking work of Journalism, The1619 Project, Nikole, and the projects' authors reveal a truer origin story. One that places Black people at the center of America’s founding and democracy. From this vantage point, Black people and their contributions to making the United States can be clearly seen. Together these dynamic women will share experiences and keen observations gleaned from the study of North American slavery, anti-Blackness, and caste system that continue to impact and influence how the world operates and its impact on the philanthropic sector.
